The beautiful Sapphire, one of the big 4 gemstones (Emerald, Ruby, Sapphire and Diamond) is the birthstone for all of our September babies. The name Sapphire is derived from the Greek word 'Sapheiros' and the Latin word 'Saphirus', both meaning blue.

A stone of wisdom and royalty, throughout history Sapphires were often associated with the heavens and were worn by medieval kings who thought the gem could protect them from their enemies.

Sapphires are a variety of Corundum, and while they can be found in various colours, Blue is considered a Sapphire's true colour. They range from pale blue to a deep royal blue.

Sapphires are often given on a 45th Wedding Anniversary.
