Garnets are commonly referred to as a gemstone but Garnet is actually the mineral group. There are many different types of Garnets including Almandine (most common type - reddish brown), Pyrope (Blood Red), Rhodolite (Purplish Red), Spessartine (Orange, Yellow & Red) and Uvarovite (Green). Garnets can be found in every colour except for shades of blue.
Dating back to the Ancient Egyptians, Garnets were thought to be an important symbol of good health and were a popular addition in Egyptian art.
The name Garnet comes from the Latin word 'Garanatus' which means seed-like.
Garnets are often given on a 2nd Wedding Anniversary.
