What are Lab-Created Diamonds?
One of the most exciting new developments in the jewellery industry is the rise of Lab-Created Diamonds. Created diamonds are man-made by simulating natural conditions and are identical in chemical, optical and physical composition as a mined diamond. Under laboratory conditions of intense heat and pressure, a tiny diamond seed is nurtured with carbon atoms. Layer by layer, the diamond grows and forms before being precision-cut to perfection by expert master cutters. The result is a man-made diamond identical to its natural counterpart. A created diamond is the same as a mined diamond - just as a greenhouse-grown orchid is identical to one found in nature.
Is there a difference in quality between Lab-Grown Diamonds vs Earth-Grown Diamonds?
Created diamonds are graded with the same standards as mined diamonds and each lab-created diamond from My Jewellery Shop larger than 0.30cts comes with a GCAL or IGI certification.
How can you tell the difference between Lab-Grown Diamonds and Earth-Grown Diamonds?
The only way to distinguish a mined diamond from a created diamond is with specialised lab equipment. To ensure full transparency, all lab-created diamonds 0.30ct and larger are laser inscribed to clearly identify them as man-made. This inscription is only visible under strong magnification.
What is the price difference between Lab-Grown Diamonds and Earth-Grown Diamonds?
Created diamonds are approximately 30% cheaper than mined diamonds, making them a great option for many of our clients. This means that you can get a better quality diamond for the same price, or if size is a priority, it means you can get a bigger diamond for the same price. This price difference is due to the increasing rarity of mined diamonds as they are a limited resource.
